Fort Myers River District
Built along the Caloosahatchee River, Downtown Fort Myers, better known as the River District perfectly reflects the city’s charm and heritage. Brick-lined streets, historic buildings painted in pastel colors, a variety of palm trees and a humid breeze coming up from the river present a unique experience for Southwest Florida visitors and residents.
The River District has undergone a few redevelopment phases, restoring the buildings while maintaining the old-time feel of the town. Walking down First Street you’ll pass a number of boutique shops, bars and restaurants on both sides of the street. Ford’s Garage City Tavern, the Historic Arcade Theatre, and the Davis Art Center building take you back in time with memorabilia and historical facts from the past.
Head a block north and you're at the Fort Myers Yacht Basin. Stroll alongside the water and delight in the number of boats from out of state and their creative boat names. Catch a fishing charter or dolphin-watching cruise, or just relax on a city bench and watch the sunset over the Caloosahatchee Bridge.
You can take the River District Trolley, which takes you from the Edison & Ford Winter Estates all the way over to the Oasis Condominiums FREE of charge! The River District also hosts a number of events including the Downtown Art Walk held the 1st Friday of every month and the Downtown Music Walk held every 3rd Friday. The city also hosts Bike Night, the Ft. Myers Farmers Market and events for various holiday celebrations.
