More About Bonita Springs
Lots To Do
Nestled between Estero and Naples is diverse Bonita Springs. The city itself spans two counties, Lee and Collier, and a sports four different zip codes. Wow, that sounds big! But, really Bonita Springs is only 40 sq. miles of land, but it's packed with an array of attractions. With the Gulf of Mexico to the west, and Corkscrew swamp to the east, what did you expect from this kitschy coastal town?
The Flamingo Island Flea Market is the thing to do on relaxed weekends in Bonita, and you don’t have to venture far from I-75 to get to it. With space for 600 vendors, you’ll find a variety of fun markets to browse, ice cream in hand. Continue down Bonita Beach Road and you’ll see signs for another town favorite, the Naples-Fort Myers Dog Track. Besides greyhound racing events, the complex hosts derby watching parties, poker nights, and local events such as the annual Bonita boat show.
Sand and Glam
If the beach is more your thing, there’s plenty of that from Barefoot Beach Preserve to Bonita Beach Park and Big Hickory Island. Take your four-legged friend to “dog beach” or go enjoy our slower-paced, hard-shell friends at Barefoot Beach Preserve - home of the gopher tortoise! If nothing else, you’ll enjoy the drive through Barefoot Beach’s brick-paved roads lined with tall million-dollar beach homes and old royal palm trees. Biking, skating, or dancing down Hickory Boulevard is another fun activity for those wanting a better look at the Old Florida homes on the bayside, and the newer, flashy Florida homes on the Gulf side.
There’s fun to be had inland as well, with a number of top-notch golf courses and country clubs. Have you seen photos online from those gorgeous golf-course weddings in Southwest Florida? High-class events like this beautifully capture the elegance of Bonita Springs and showcase the area’s jaw-dropping landscape. Go ahead, raise your glass to the beautiful sun setting over the bay!
What’s an area attraction without Florida gators and birds! Bonita Springs is home to the long-established roadside attraction - the Everglades Wonder Gardens, which was established in 1936. The 3.5-acre botanical jungle features native reptiles, tropical birds, and of course, alligators. The botanical gardens are full of blooming orchids, bamboos and other beautiful plants, which create the perfect backdrop for your next Facebook profile photo. So what are you waiting for, go get those “likes”!
